Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern occupational and environmental health and safety.
Experience with Medgate database a requirement.
Customer service skills including needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate information to supervisors, peers, and customers
Ability to function independently while providing quality occupational health care and services to employee
Strong organization and documentation skills
Moderate computer skills in Case Management program systems and Microsoft Office applications
Duties and Tasks
Ensures comprehensive case management of medical leaves of absence (Short Term Disability), FMLA and ADA, work related injuries, workers comp, OSHA compliance and recordkeeping
Assists with reducing lost time by facilitating and measuring all options for safe early return to work
Utilizes medical expertise and risk management practices to effectively communicate and interact with Human Resources (HR), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) staff, managers, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and other key personnel to assess, and control situations with potential health risks and hazards
Researches and partners with Occupational Health Resources (OHR) manager and the Benefits Department to promote a culture of overall health and wellness
With OHR Manager and Benefits Department, designs, develops, implements and evaluates of on-site wellness programs to promote optimum health of employees, enhance productivity, & thereby assist in protecting company profits
Utilizes medical expertise and risk management practices to work with employees, managers, HR and Law Department staff to ensure compliance with guidelines and laws related to the ADA
Participates in case conferencing on a team including medical insurance vendors, HR, Management, and/or EHS as a medical content expert to provide medical perspective and consultative advice in cases of poor attendance and/or poor performance due to a medical condition, job accommodation request, workplace accident, possible toxic exposure and related issues
Executes comprehensive case management of medical portion of ergonomics program
Ensures appropriate medical determination/coordination of referrals to external health resources Education and Experience
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field, or the equivalent experience, and a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state employed is required. In addition, a minimum of 10 years in professional nursing in occupational health, wellness promotion, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) , Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements, Workers compensation and disability case management is required.
