Job Posting Summary

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Alumni Relations operates in a very visible office and its employees must be flexible, neat, dependable, and accurate in work performance. Work Study eligible preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.

Knowledge of office practices and procedures, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Includes excellent telephone manners with tact and diplomacy ability to operate a multi-line phone system and knowledge of the university structure. Customer service experience. Very proficient on computer preferably database entry experience. Possess organizational and cash handling skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work with a diverse clientele. Work with confidential records and maintain confidentiality; work independently on routine responsibilities; follow directions, plan, organize and execute a variety of tasks simultaneously; work cooperatively with others. Be familiar with MS Word and Excel.

Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).

Applicant must be enrolled in the University of Alaska System with a minimum of six credit hours in the fall semester of employment and a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Special Conditions of Employment

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). Duty:
Perform general clerical duties, work independently, and use a personal computer. Produce standard form letters, accurate, error-free correspondence from hand written drafts. Enter data in our database accurately. Design creative brochures, postcards, or flyers for events that the Association sponsors. Assist with answering multi-line telephone and distributing telephone calls and messages. Receive alumni membership renewals, write receipts, maintain accurate records and assist with deposits. Respond to e-mail inquires. Assist with maintenance of Alumni website. Maintain responsibility for department keys checked-out in student assistant's name. Be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Greet and assist fellow alumni, students, or visitors to the alumni office with any questions or concerns they may have regarding the university or the Alumni Association. Run errands on campus. Perform routine filing of correspondence and assist in maintaining confidential alumni records and office accounts. Assist in maintenance of a clean and efficient office and lounge area. Work with a high degree of independence after initial instructions. Work with confidential information. This is a very visible office and employees must be flexible, neat, dependable, and accurate in work performance. Perform other duties as assigned.
