The position is located in the U.S. Coast Guard, Surface Forces Logistics Center, Engineering Services Division, Technical Information Management Branch, Publication Production and Distribution Section, Baltimore, MD.
    KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute.

DUTIES: The incumbent serves as an Office Automation Clerk performing a wide variety of general office duties such as typing, filing, distributing mail, and answering/directing phone calls to appropriate personnel.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

- Types a variety of forms, reports, correspondence and memoranda into final form from rough drafts and/or verbal instructions.

- Maintains files and reports involving many subject headings.

- Receives telephone calls, sorts and routes mail and performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Candidates at the GS-4 level must have 1 year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR Candidates at the GS-4 level may also meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position through possession of 2 years of education above the high school level.

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

If you meet the minimum qualifications, your experience, education and training will be rated using the on-line assessment to place you in one of three categories. The necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this job are:

1. Knowledge and ability to perform clerical duties.

2. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, etc.

3. Skill in using data processing systems applications and products.

If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will be placed in one of the following categories:

1. Best Qualified: Applicants possessing a background that demonstrates a superior level of all evaluation criteria.
2. Well Qualified: Applicants possessing a background that demonstrates a satisfactory level of the evaluation criteria.
3. Qualified: Applicants possessing the basic qualifications, with general knowledge, skills, and abilities.
