Under direct supervision, an employee in this class performs work in an intermediate level office support position involving preparation of office documents, use of computerized information systems, forms processing, and public service contact under clear direction and precise rules and procedures.

Definition/Summary of Duties:
1. Prepare and handle materials (file folders; books, documents, mail; case records; etc.) for filing, storage, shelving, distribution or destruction; maintain supplies and inventory.

2. Screen, relay, and respond to a broad range of requests for information; explain a variety of requirements; policies, and procedures regarding services to public and other staff.

3. Perform additional job functions as described in section below.

4. Perform other duties as required.

TYPICAL AREAS OF ASSIGNMENT: Focus areas include specialized clerical, secretarial support, customer oriented support, copy support personnel and community worker personnel. Positions in this class may include tasks in one or more of the focus areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment. Working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures; knowledge of business correspondence format and style; knowledge of routine business terminology; basic computer operating system commands. Some positions may require a typing skill at 45 WPM. Strong communication skills. Basic computer operating skills.

Ability to follow office procedure and general office methods. Ability to take initiative in problem solving. Ability to write, spell and use proper English. Ability to handle multiple, sometimes repetitive, tasks simultaneously. Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines. Ability to pull and push carts loaded with files; also, reach, bend, and stoop when accessing files. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff.

Education and Experience:
Completion of High School or equivalency plus one year of experience in clerical work or a customer-relations field.
