The Group Leader - Laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting daily laboratory tests to assist Technical Specialists and Engineers in determining the best approach for Cementing, Acidizing, Fracturing and Coil Tubing service applications, and for providing guidance and technical expertise to more junior Lab Technicians.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tests materials used as ingredients in cement, propellants, refractories, and other products for qualities such as purity, stability, viscosity, and density to determine stability of fracturing fluids and compatibility of oil and acid.
Tests solutions used in processes such as acidizing, fracturing, cementing, and coil tubing applications.
Provides guidance and technical expertise to Lab Technicians; is a resource to Lab Techs in troubleshooting testing issues
Mentors and trains new or junior Lab Technicians
Conduct water analyses for fracturing and cementing applications and verify conformity to specifications and standards.
Prepare chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas
Add chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications.
Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist Technical Specialists and Engineers in making qualitative and quantitative analyses and determining the best approach for service to be rendered
Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses; write test reports describing procedures used and prepare graphs and charts to document results.
Provide technical support and assistance to Engineers.
Conduct programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and products.
Sets up, adjust, calibrate and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as centrifuge, agitators, viscosimeter, chemical balance scales, and other equipment to test Fracturing fluids and Cementing applications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
While performing the duties of this job the employee will spend a majority of the time indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, although occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions may be required. The employee is regularly exposed to hazardous chemicals and airborne particles. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; reach and pull with hands and arms, and lift up to 50 lbs. The vision requirements include: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
4 year degree in Chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience in a related field (i.e. Lab Technician, Fluid Tech, Quality Control)
2-3 years experience as a Lab Technician or Fluid Tech
Strong attention to detail
Strong time management skills
Strong problem solving, critical thinking, judgment and decision making skills
Strong communication skills- verbal and written
Ability to work a 10 days on, 4 days off schedule and availability to be on-call 24/7
Exceptional computer skills; must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications
PREFERRED - EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
Oil & Gas experience preferred
