Statement of Purpose: Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director. The Operating Room Assistant assists nursing staff in the delivery of individual patient care for patients assigned to the Unit, according to unit policies and procedures. Maintains standards of nursing practice, in accordance with the mission, values and philosophy of St. Alexius Medical Center. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school graduate or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology. Registration: Must be registered on the North Dakota Board of Nursing Unlicensed Assistive Persons (UAP) Registry or the Registry operated by the State Department and Consolidated Laboratories. If not registered, then must obtain registration immediately following orientation and training by St. Alexius Medical Center as stated in the policy “Eligibility for Employment as Nurse Assistant”. Experience: Preferred hospital experience, aide experience or satisfactory completion of certification/training program. Skills: Able to organize assignments and work under pressure. Basic Life Support Certification within 480 hours of employment and meets re-certification as required. Interpersonal Skills: Good communication skills are necessary because of the constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff. Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors and patients. Maintains confidentiality. Physical Effort: Medium: Sometimes involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 50 pounds. Hours of Work: Rotating shift work or straight evenings or nights. Rotating holidays and weekends may be required. Other: Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards. Able to perform effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
