An Operating Room Assistant (ORA) III is responsible for assisting the perioperative team with direct and indirect patient care within requirements and guidelines of this job description. The ORA III functions as a member of the perioperative team under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs in the areas within the OR (unrestricted, semi-restricted and restricted) and adheres to proper surgical attire. The ORA III checks case carts for accuracy of information for supplies, instruments and equipment, manages inventory of specialty instruments, coordinates equipment usage and storage. The ORA III functions as a preceptor and resource for ORA Levels I and II.
The ORA III duties include assistance with patient care by extremity holding during surgical skin prep, performing tasks associated with asepsis and sterilization principles and techniques, and assisting with sterile field set up. An ORA III performs surgical hand scrubbing, dons a sterile gown and gloves to function within the sterile field. The ORA III duties when functioning within the sterile field are limited to draping, handling of sterile supplies, gowning and gloving team members, and holding extremities and retractors. Other duties may vary according to the type of surgery and team requirements.
Position requires successful completion of an aseptic and sterile technique class provided by SHC Perioperative Educators.
The ORA III provides care based on the principles of growth and development across the life span of patients and demonstrates the skills necessary to provide direct and indirect care appropriate to the age of the patients served within perioperative services. The ORA Level III performs duties pertaining to the position and follows infection control related policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain a clean safe environment for patients and perioperative services associates. Provision of care is given as described in the Scottsdale Healthcare Patient Care Policies and service or unit specific Department Operating Policies.
High School Diploma or GED
BLS Healthcare Provider Course
Department-provided training related to basic and specialty instrumentation, principles of sterilization, and aseptic technique.
1 year experience as an ORA I or related experience.
