As an Operations Leader in Steam Turbine & Generator Manufacturing, you will direct and manage the work of hourly employees in building and assembling state of the art power generation products within GE Power & Water in Schenectady, NY – the birthplace of GE and business headquarters. You will be expected to make business critical decisions in a timely manner and meet safety, quality, production, and delivery metrics within a particular cell.

Essential Responsibilities
In addition, you will:
  • Provide direction and leadership to hourly production employees, including work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training in a Union environment
  • Drive business critical metrics including safety, quality and productivity
  • Develop, coordinate, lead, and execute daily production plans
  • Achieve highest safety levels in the plant
  • Work with cross-functional peers in manufacturing engineering, planning, quality, etc. to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement
  • Arrange for adequate staffing to meet the production schedules set by production planning and consistent with the operating plan
  • Support, encourage and facilitate core manufacturing principles by providing adequate time for training and for teams to accomplish continuous improvement projects
  • Develop and support the growth of all employees
  • Support all company workplace policies including attendance and safety objectives
  • Support Cell Leader in the strategic planning of manpower, equipment, and other resources to achieve business goals and objectives with timely and cost-effective strategies
  • Employ Six Sigma rigors to all functions within the cell(s)
  • Mentor and motivate team in safety, quality, and productivity improvements
  • Coordinate consistent and effective shift-to-shift transitions
  • Develop and implement process controls

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous leadership / supervisory experience ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job

    Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Electrical or Aerospace)
  • Able and willing to work the off-shift (2nd shift – 3pm-11pm or 3rd shift 11pm-7am)
  • Experience working with Unions in a production environment
  • Desire to work in a challenging and dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Previous supervisory / leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to identify and implement cost reduction strategies based upon measurement data and technical expertise
  • Ability to deal effectively with complex, ambiguous and contradictory alternatives
  • Ability to develop credibility with employees, manager and peers
  • Strong technical, analytical, and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to plan, communicate, and execute
  • Ability to deal fairly and equitably with all employees
