TITLE: Operations Supervisor

I. POSITION SUMMARY

To ensure mobile collections operations are run in a manner that results in safe and compliant blood products and service that consistently delights donor and sponsors. To ensure a working environment for staff on the applicable team that is supportive and productive through recognition, feedback, coaching and development.

II. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify the essential accountabilities of the position, i.e., the most important responsibilities of the job. The accountabilities should be organized by the major functions of the position, with generally no more then five or six essential processes identified. The percentage of time spend on the essential function is an estimate of time, but should total 100%. You should also state the external training required for the position as well as the internal training the person will need to be role released.

25% OF TIME SPENT

PROCESS: Provide leadership and supervision to operations occurring in the field (donor centers and mobile operations) to ensure a consistent and compliant blood collection operation that exceeds customer expectations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide staff supervision, role model performance and customer service/recovery at operations. This involves direct supervision of approximately 8-10 staff members and running operations approximately four days each week.

PROCESS: Provide consistent application of Memorial Blood Centers’ policies and procedures ensure a productive and supportive work environment that results in engaged staff and volunteers

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Working together with Managers and other Operations Supervisors and through supervising staff at operations, providing recognition, coaching, feedback, mentoring and development of assigned staff both formally and informally

PROCESS: Support and work to achieve the organizational mission and vision and operating plan goals

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure all staff understand the importance of their work, set team or operation goals and ensure the achievement of key departmental results such collection goal and productivity. This will include ensuring timely and accurate information is communicated.

PROCESS: Rapidly identify operational problems, immediately correct the problem and work to prevent recurrences

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work with support departments and other Operations Supervisors to identify and solve common problems.

PROCESS: Ensure staff are highly-skilled, professional and provide exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure the proper training, supervision and assimilation of new staff. Ensure incumbent staff are properly trained and competent . Ensure high performance standards are set and met for all staff. May be involved in the hiring process

PROCESS: Assure complete and accurate operational and compliance records pertaining to the operations responsible for.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure accurate and timely reporting of daily operations reports and operational deviations.

SOP-MBC-07-001: Deviation/Non-Conformance Reporting

SOP-DC-16-004: Completion of the Daily Activity Report

III. FORMAL PREPARATION / EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 year degree in a scientifically related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1 year experience in a blood center or related field working with donors/patients and taking medical histories and/or doing phlebotomy
  • 1 year experience providing work direction to others
  • Some medical training preferred (for example, EMT, Medical Assistant, etc)
  • Supervisory/leadership training preferred
IV. OTHER

Location: Southern Metro

Supervision: This position reports to the Manager - Collections.

Effort: Local travel is required. Must have reliable transportation to and from work assignments.

Work Environment: Noise level is usually moderate and fast-paced. Performance of this job could expose employee to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands:
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, color differentiation, hear activity at operations, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
