Medline Industries has an immediate opening for an Operator in our Waukegan, IL facility. The Operator will be responsible to assure that production plant machines operate safely, properly and efficiently to meet a pre-set product quality and output rate.
Major Purpose or Role
In accordance with written and oral instructions, assure that production plant machines operate safely, properly and efficiently to meet a pre-set product quality and output rate.
Operator 1 duties includes operating of at least one equipment (case erector / packaging equipment and/or converting equipment), loading boxes on skids, shrink wrapping skids, correctly labeling and tagging product and skids, and moving the shrink wrapped pallets to quarantine area with a hand operated forklift.
Daily housekeeping and light industrial cleaning will be part of the job function. Hand assembly and packaging will additional responsibility.
Major Responsibilities or Duties
Understand the mechanical characteristics of case erecting and final packaging equipment and/or converting equipment well enough to be able to perform a change-over, complete line clearance paper work and operate the unit safely without damaging equipment or risking injury to self.
Ability to read and understand equipment well enough to be able to write work instructions, initiate maintenance requests, and operate the equipment as required.

Observe and recognize various machine failure indications and perform corrections and/or get maintenance help as required.
Understand the process flow chart and individual machine operating parameters well enough to be able to produce successful products as required by established process specifications and efficiency requirements.
Operate equipment within established guidelines to ensure product meets quality standards; maintain awareness of product quality and adjust process within specifications to attain high quality product.
Notify supervisor of any potential malfunction that could endanger personnel or damage equipment; bring equipment to safe stop/emergency stop as conditions warrant; ensure all items requiring maintenance are reported in both equipment logs and by initiating a maintenance request.
Assist maintenance department on periodic preventive maintenance; upon completion of maintenance activities, inspect equipment before start up to ensure completion of work.
Coordinate with supervisor and properly dispose of the wastes generated. Identify recycling opportunities for both end-uses for finished goods and for bailer packing.
Notify supervisor when machine will be down and when machine will start up; keep the equipment orderly and work area clean. This includes assigned quadrant cleaning in addition to other assigned tasks.
Maintain Daily Operator’s log. Support manufacturing teams and provide records or reports when necessary.
Checks product and all packaging materials used on the equipment to ensure accuracy. Compare with Bill of Material (BOM).
Ensure work order router is followed on assigned area, which includes component accuracy, lot number and case labeling, and other specified requirements from the work order for the assigned area.
Maintain constantvisual check on all areas of operation of assigned area and equipment for proper packaging product.
Maintain constant visual check on product quality of cloth, film, labels, cartons, and pallets. Report and corrective any discrepancies or failures to shift supervisor/lead immediately.
Remove defective packages from machine and rework into good production.
Verify all packaging lot numbers on finished product, both the package and carton, are per work order router specifications.
Work overtime as needed.
Perform assigned duties and responsibilities safely, following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Participate and pursue cross-functional training on an on-going basis.
Maintain and upgrade skills with current technology, techniques, and practices.
Maintain good housekeeping practices in work area and in assigned areas.
Assist production to ensure there is proper production coverage when operators are absent from position.
Provide and assist with the training of assigned personnel as assigned.
Perform assigned work in various areas of the production and warehouse environment for skill develop as required. This includes gaining a thorough operational knowledge of all production and warehouse equipment.
Follow and enforce Medline procedure as developed and implemented by management and document control (SOP’s, CW’s, MP’s, etc.).
Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
