A San Jose, California based spectral instrumentation company, s eeking development, design and production oriented Optical Engineer/Scientist to join for developing and manufacturing company’s advanced laser induced breakdown spectrometer products. While our customer base already spans the traditional areas of spectroscopy, we are changing and revolutionizing the way spectroscopic instruments are applied. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be deeply involved in the engineering and production of a new generation of LIBS spectrometer devices. Full time or contractor position is available:

Responsibilities:
  • Participating in developing a new generation of laser induced breakdown spectrometers
  • Join the team efforts on designing and implementing LIBs instrument prototypes, from optical design, engineering to selection of laser sources, optics, spectrographs, detectors, and the whole analyzers
  • Instrument packing, miniaturization, optimization, design modifications, vendor selection to product introduction

Job Requirements

Requirements:
  • Experience with optical aspects of LIBs instrumentation; experience in elemental analysis using LIBS
  • Familiar with one or more of the following: laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, pulsed lasers, fore optics, high resolution spectrograph, detectors, optical design trade-offs optical design, optical alignment, optical testing, free space optics, grating based optical devices, spectrographs, various spectrometer design
  • Past work or design or test experience in any type of high resolution spectrographs, pulsed lasers based optical systems, and or LIBs based spectrometers
  • Good understanding of the optical design, spectrometer design. Understand design trade-offs of size, weight, price vs performance
  • Strong capability and adoptability to a fast moving company and dynamic work environment. Good communications skills in English, both oral and written, technical documentation, technical presentation skills a plus
Education background in Optics, Spectroscopy, Chemistry, Physics, EE and Mechanical engineering disciplines, B.S./E, M.S/E, Ph.D, 3-5 year experience.
