The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Southwestern University seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month organic chemistry laboratory coordinator beginning in August 2013. The appointment is for a renewable non-tenure track staff member with faculty rank. Applicants must have completed a PhD in chemistry with in-depth skills and expertise in organic chemistry. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to chemical education research and innovative pedagogy are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will oversee the organic chemistry laboratory curriculum and develop innovative inquiry-based laboratories in collaboration with departmental faculty as part of our recent Howard Hughes Medical Institute award. The laboratory coordinator will teach several sections of first- and second- semester organic chemistry laboratories and may contribute to other courses of study. Additional responsibilities include on-going development and preparation of new laboratory material; maintaining instructional equipment; supervising and training undergraduate peer mentors; and assisting with course and departmental assessments. The candidate must be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and education. Opportunities are also available to conduct research with undergraduate students.
