General statement of duties:
Organizes family child care providers

Develops worker leads

Develops regional organizing committees

Develops and coordinates campaign

Performs related work as assigned

Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of the child care team director who reviews work for effectiveness, timeliness, scope, and accuracy in accordance with the needs of the department.

Supervision Exercised:
May supervise interns directly or may provide functional supervision for other employees or member organizers.

Examples of duties:
Develops family child care leaders

Assesses worker interest in engaging in the union

Organizes family child care providers to build their political power

Maintains consistent contact with family child care members

Plans regional organizing committee meetings

Maintains files and organizing lists

Develops community/faith based contacts to build support family child care providers

Recruits members for political activity, especially COPE

Recruits member organizers to support organizing efforts

Builds support for organizing among SEIU 509 members

Processes grievances

Attends staff meetings and other related meetings and training

Performs work in a timely fashion

Keeps accurate records and files of campaigns

Assists other locals as requested in organizing efforts

Performs related work as required

Qualifications: Qualifications:
Bilingual/bicultural candidates are preferred; especially Organizers with Spanish language skills , persons of color encouraged to apply.

Commitment to the labor movement

Ability to move workers through house-calls and one on one conversations

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (listening, speaking, and writing)

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to work under pressure

Computer literate

Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends

An insured, registered vehicle and a valid drivers' license are required
