Performs intermediate paraprofessional work in planning, coordination, promotion, implementation and supervision of a variety of recreation programs and/or activities to include parks, playgrounds, recreation centers, schools and camp programs; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Center Director or Program Coordinator. Supervision is exercised over all subordinate personnel.

Essential Job Functions*:

Position may involve standing and walking both indoors and outdoors for extended periods; Sedentary tasks minimal; Must be physically able to demonstrate the proper technique to perform a variety of physical activities and have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment and supplies customary and reasonable in a recreation environment. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and required to wear specialized protective equipment.Coordinates, develops, plans and supervises a variety of recreation programs in an assigned area, facility, expertise or population; Evaluates recreational activities, programs and special events and makes daily visits to program sites; Distributes supplies and equipment and maintains inventory of distribution; Prepares publicity information and material; Prepares a variety of reports, evaluations, work schedules and assignments; Establishes discipline procedures with staff and participants; Completes accident reports; Submits requests for maintenance service, materials and equipment; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule.Assists in promotion of other division programs such as distribution of printed materials; Assists with division Special Events as requested; Works at sites other than primary location as needed and scheduled by supervisor; Conducts/instructs activities as requested and scheduled; Recruits volunteers and works with community groups; Registers participants and collects fees; Drives vehicle as needed to transport supplies, equipment and participants; Conducts rental of facilities and equipment.*Note: The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the position description. Typical Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of instructional techniques to instruct staff and volunteers about policies, operations, planning, etc.; Thorough knowledge and skills in techniques in child supervision and program development planning; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with coworkers, program participants, and the general public; Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs and staff meetings; Ability to provide first aid assistance when needed; Ability to keep records and make reports.Education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in recreation or related field and some experience in leisure services.

Special License and Certificates:

Possession of a valid drivers license; Possession of or ability to obtain first aid certification.
