Outdoor Specialist Opportunity - Middle School
Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for Outdoor Specialists to co-lead planned spring 2013 trips for 6 th , 7 th and 8 th grade Middle School students.
Together with their assigned Lakeside Middle School faculty member, the Outdoor Specialist will be responsible for providing students with the opportunities to:
The trips are planned as follows:
- Develop a sense of place in the Pacific Northwest
- Learn how to contribute as members of teams
- Take physical, emotional, and social risks
- Practice problem solving
Prior to each trip there will be several short preparatory meetings with students (during school hours). Attendance at these meetings is encouraged but not required for Outdoor Specialists. Additionally, there will be one full day (8am-4pm) of prep time scheduled for each trip. These prep days will be one day prior to each trip and attendance is required for all Outdoors Specialists.
- 6 th Grade (Prep May 7, Trip May 8-10)
- 7 th Grade (Prep May 13, Trip May 14-17)
- 8th Grade (Prep June 3, Trip June 4-7)
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates must be at least 21 years of age; have experience leading multi-day wilderness expeditions working with middle school age children; and possess current Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications (WFR preferred). Additionally, candidates must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
Compensation and Benefits
$130/day plus $25 for each short student preparatory meeting attended.
