Qualifications/Duties
Texas Health Alliance seeks to hire a PCT to work part-time / day shift in a ICU Acute unit. The schedule includes working some weekends and holidays.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Current Certified Nurse’s Aide, Graduate of an approved Hospital specific PCT Training Program (i.e. THFW or Center For Learning Program), or nursing student who has completed fundamentals. Successful completion of CPR within 30 days or prior to patient care assignment.

QUALITY AND SAFETY:
Assists in the identification of ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve them.
Participates in the process improvement activities within the department/hospital.
Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals
Adheres to safe patient handling and employee safety guidelines.
Display cooperation and adaptability in order to maintain effective working relationships.
Departmental needs are met by working assigned schedule and adjusting to changing patient census, workload an crisis situations in a calm and efficient manner.
Constructive criticism is responded to positively.
Team members are supported and willingly assisted.
Takes action to reduce/eliminate patient risks.
Nurse is notified promptly of perceived risks to patient safety and patient immediate needs.
Care givers are located when requested.
Staff are notified of STAT and NOW orders as they are written.
Hospital safety rules including the areas addressing infection control, basic lifting, fire safety and the handling of chemical spills are adhered to.
Refrigerator quality control checks completed daily.
Unit is kept free of unnecessary equipment.
Assists in meeting departmental/hospital KPI’s related to: Patient outcomes, customer satisfaction, financial performance, organizational effectiveness, and community health care (Outreach Programs).

CARE OF PATIENT/TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
Patient needs and requests are responded to promptly and courteously.
Patient’s desired outcomes and rights are respected.

Interactions include consideration for age specific needs:
Young adult and older patients are addressed formally, unless permission is given to utilize a first name.
A slow, lower pitched voice with words spoken in a clear manner is utilized, raising voice only if appropriate to hearing deficit.
Physicians, staff, patients and visitors receive general information as requested in a manner specific to age and educational level.
Patient complaints are minimal.
Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
Provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
Enters orders into computer or manual system if appropriate.
Documents accurately and appropriately.
In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate.
Functions as greeter to Women’s Services. Patients, visitors physicians and other employees are welcomed to the unit.
Phones and intercom are answered professionally and courteously by the second or third ring.
Professionalism in appearance (adheres to dress code policy and provides a calm, welcoming demeanor at all times, promoting a quiet, organized work environment.
Work area is kept neat, organized and supplied.
Reports are filed within two (2) hours of receipt.
Information is removed from printer and fax machine and sorted as they print.
Charge Nurse is made aware of expected admissions and charts readied as needed.
Transfers and discharges are processed, copying chart as needed for out of facility transfers.
Staff beeper numbers are programmed into system.
Computer, fax machine and printer proficient (able to change toner cartridges as needed).
The Admissions/Transfer/Dismissal (bed control) sheet is maintained current and complete throughout shift.

WORKPLACE/PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Maintains and enhances patient care skills.
Seeks assistance and supervision when performing unfamiliar tasks.
Serves as a patient advocate.
Complies with personnel policies.
Communicates per department expectations.
Recognizes and promptly communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
Appropriate caregivers are notified of information necessary for the coordination of patient care.
Messages are transmitted courteously, respectfully and professionally.
E-mails are read and responded to in a timely manner.
Unit meetings are attended and participation is evident.
Phone calls and beeper pages are placed as directed.
Nutrition floor stock levels are maintained with orders placed in computer by 1000 hours daily.
Activities surrounding a Code Blue are managed without undue disruption to unit flow:
Visitors and hospital personnel traffic is redirected as necessary
Phone calls are screened to minimize nurse interruptions.
Physicians are assisted in retrieving computerized information.
The protocol for “computer downtime” is understood and utilized as needed.

PARTNERSHIP:
Uses CPM philosophy to work in partnership with patients, families, physicians, peers and all other disciplines.
Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in schedule and/or workload assignment necessary to meet changing needs of the individual patient or unit.
Makes new team members feel welcome and offers assistance with orientation of new employees.
Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills and communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines and other customers.
Organizes workload and effectively collaborates with nursing to prioritize care.

Newly opened in fall 2012, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance is located near the intersection of Interstate 35W and Golden Triangle Boulevard.
The project totals approximately 189,000 square feet, including a full-service hospital that has outpatient and surgical services, a 24-hour emergency room, intensive care unit, women’s and infant care, six labor and recovery suites and 14 post-partum rooms, diagnostic offices and 36 inpatient acute-care inpatient beds (with the potential to house up to 350 beds).
The new hospital campus will provide quality healthcare services for residents of north Fort Worth, Keller, North Richland Hills, Haslet and surrounding communities
