Provides quality samples for laboratory testing by collection of biological samples from patients across the age continuum (infants through geriatrics) while focusing on the needs of the patient and exemplifying the service excellence goals of care, concern, respect and cooperation. Performs electrocardiograms (EKG's) for cardiology interpretation. Assists with patient registrations and maintains effective operations of the laboratory patient registration area.
Position Requirements:Minimum Education:
Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Required: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP, NCA, others),CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
Position Responsibilities: Obtains blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture using appropriate technique, which maintains the quality and integrity of the specimen to ensure valid test results. Communicates effectively and respectfully with patients and family members to meet their needs during phlebotomy and EKG procedures. Correctly releases tests ordered by physicians in EPIC using order release guidelines and/or accurately enters test orders from manual requisitions. Accurately registers patients using proper procedures to ensure proper billing of and maximum reimbursement for laboratory services. Participates in departmental quality improvement activities as directed by supervisor/manager. Demonstrates quality customer service through positive interaction (face-to-face and over the phone) that meets the needs of patients, visitors, staff, faculty and vendors.
