Percona is seeking a developer experienced in building PHP web applications with MySQL, including user interface design and development. The developer must be able to build a complete high-performance web application at large scale against an existing MySQL database.

This is a work-at-home position, with some required travel for company and team meetings. Most collaboration will be over phone, Skype, and IRC chat. Access to a reliable high-speed Internet connection is required. Self-motivation and organizational skills are a must. Good spoken and written English is also important.

Familiarity with test-driven development, and an obsessive focus on quality, are important characteristics we're looking for. You will be working with a team that has high expectations of code quality and maintainability. You will need to create good code, but equally importantly, you must help define and execute good processes for development and deployment. The application you will be building does not currently exist, but will be mission-critical in nature. You will need to help create a requirements specification for it.

Required skills:
Solid fundamental programming skills, including algorithm analysis.

Expert knowledge of PHP and HTML. Experience with HTML5 is desired.

Expert knowledge of CSS.

Expert knowledge of JavaScript, preferably including a library such as jQuery or Prototype.

Good knowledge of MySQL and SQL. You will not be able to just rely on an ORM.

Desired skills:
Proven success working in a distributed environment where e-mail, IRC and voice calls are the only interaction with colleagues and managers on a daily basis.

Familiarity with distributed version control (bzr, Launchpad) highly desired.

Knowledge of Apache, networking, memcached, and Linux is beneficial.

Familiarity with building a distributed (sharded) application with MySQL.

Experience with e-commerce systems and handling payments
