The Department of Physical Therapy at East Carolina University is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12 month tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Applicants must hold (or be near completion) a research doctoral degree (PhD or comparable), and be eligible for PT licensure in North Carolina. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of motor control/motor learning with opportunities to teach in other areas of interest. Applicants with research experience in balance and postural control are encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will be expected to establish a productive and competitive research agenda. All faculty are expected to strive toward teaching excellence and to engage in Department, College, University, and professional service. Opportunities for clinical practice are available through the Department's faculty practice.
Instructional facilities include state-of-the-art lecture and laboratory classrooms with multimedia instruction centers including internet and videoconferencing capabilities. All faculty have access to the Department's two well-equipped and spacious motion labs (Balance Lab = 1000 ft2, Human Movement Lab = 2000 ft2), containing a NeuroCom dynamic force plate system, a HUR balance platform, three 8 camera Qualisys systems, six AMTI force platforms, a split-belt Bertec fully instrumented treadmill, LiteGait bodyweight support system, and two 16 channel Motion Lab Systems EMG setups, a GaitRite system, and a Novel Insole Pressure system.
East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina. Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of Eastern North Carolina. Pitt County has a population of approximately 159,000 and is located halfway between the capital city of Raleigh and the Outer Banks. East Carolina University (27,000 students) is an integral part of Vidant Medical Center, a regional hospital and rehabilitation center that serves 29 counties.
In addition to graduating the most allied health students in the state, the College of Allied Health Sciences has a strong working relationship with the ECU Brody School of Medicine, the East Carolina Heart Institute, and the School of Dental Medicine.
The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in a state-of-the-art building that is adjacent to the Health Sciences Library, College of Nursing, Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and Vidant Medical Center.
The Department currently consists of ten full-time academic and three clinical faculty and operates two off-site physical therapy clinics. The DPT is a fully accredited three year program and graduates 30 students annually.
Doctoral research PhD or comparable from an appropriately accredited institution.
Eligible for PT licensure in NC.
Ability to teach topics of motor control and motor learning.
