JOB SUMMARY
Performs basic research duties under the supervision/direction the direction of the Director of Cocrkell Center of Advanced Therapeutics and Translational Research. The basic and translational research focus of this laboratory includes epigenetic mechanisms involving histone deacetylases and methyltransferases, heat shock proteins and their cancer and leukemia-relevant client proteins, as well as transfection and functional analyses of genes regulating cell death/survival of human cancer cells.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops research methods and performs research activities. (EF)
Documents research results and writes reports of results for presentation and/or publication in professional journals and other publications. (EF)
Assists in maintaining the functionality and operations of the Principal Investigator's laboratory. (EF)
Demonstrates the components of the I CARE values. (EF)
Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. (EF)
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
M.D. or Ph.D required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Experience requirements will vary depending on the field of research.
Postdoctoral Fellow 0 no Postdoc experience required
Postdoctoral Fellow 1 one year of Postdoc experience
Postdoctoral Fellow 2 two years of experience
Postdoctoral Fellow 3 three years of postdoc experience
Postdoctoral Fellow 4 four years of postdoc experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Experience in molecular studies involving gene transfection, analysis of gene expression through QPCR, microarrays, immunoblots and flow cytometry required
Experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation studies, evaluation of protein biochemistry with 2D gels and the yeast-two-hybrid system, and tissue culture techniques is required
Experience in xenograft and genetically-engineered animal models of cancer and/or leukemia, and confocal microscopy preferred
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure and balance many competing priorities
Proficient in spreadsheet, word-processing, and presentation software
Demonstrates effective communication skills
Maintains a positive and supportive attitude and demeanor
Professional handling of exposure to confidential/sensitive information
