Minimum Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
This position is being recruited at the Advanced Competency level under the Career Banding program. The hiring range for this position is $31,372 - $43,351, and the salary grade equivalent is (estimated) 63.
The person in the this Public Safety position is responsible for dispatching Law Enforcement, Security, Parking Control and other University support departments. Position responsibilities include performing record-keeping tasks of services required using a computer-aided dispatch system; monitoring and dispatching alarms received through the University Central Alarm Receiving System; answering 9-1-1 phone lines and administrative phone lines using a multi-line computerized phone system; and operating multiple computers and programs during 12-hour shifts. Candidate must obtain within probationary period, certification of the Division of Criminal Information Network, NC Dept of Justice and maintain certification during tenure of position. This position is necessary to ensure continued, uninterrupted University operations during periods of adverse weather and/or emergency situations, including those that require the University to close. As such, the employee will be required to report to work according to their usual schedule, or upon notification to report outside of the usual work schedule. Must be able to operate multiple computer systems simultaneously, including CAD, DCIN, Alarm systems, computerized multi-line/channel telephone and radio systems while performing other multi-task duties on a continuous basis. Applicant must have the ability to speak and write clearly to be understood by others on the telephone, radio and in person. Must pass in-depth background investigation and have the ability to work efficiently under pressure situations. The Department of Public Safety maintains a 24-hour operation, 7 days a week, therefore work schedule varies depending on operational needs. SCHEDULE(subject to change): 12-Hour Rotating Shifts/Night Shifts.Must have a valid NCDL, in order to drive to various training. One year of experience in Emergency Communications Center or Law Enforcement Dispatch is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
DCI Certification, Basic Telecommunicator Certification is strongly preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:
Applicant must meet physical requirements of the NC Sheriff's Training and Standards including physical examination and drug screening. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
