The general purpose of this position is to apply solvent and water based paints to the exterior and interior of cars. Must ensure that all company guidelines are met, and that all safety rules are followed when performing duties. In addition, must be able to read and complete car repairs in compliance with FRA & AAR rules and keep good repair records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs profile measurements and records readings
Prepares the exterior of tank car and hopper cars for the coating and stripe process
Mixes and applies anit skid
Loads coating material in PC equipment and applies coating
Cleans conventional, airless spray equipment and plural component equipment
Performs confined space testing and receives confined space permit
Properly labels hazardous material paint/thinner drums
Operate track mobile and switch cars in Paint Shop only
Performs other duties as assigned
Experience with mechanical repair of some description and accustom to working with industrial tooling. A plus to have metal fabrication, oxy fuel cutting torch, air arcing and welding experience in tank car repair, freight car repair, rail cleaning, and railcar coating.
Industry knowledge of Safety Rules, MSDS knowledge and paint specification
Industry knowledge of the nomenclature of a railcar
Industry knowledge of blast standards SP1, SP5, SP6, SP7, SP10, SP11
Ability to pay strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask
Computer proficiency in MS Office applications and (AS400 is beneficial)

Climb, squat, bend, twist, and regularly lift up to 50 lbs or more to accomplish work tasks around heavy moving equipment, in high and confined areas
Use of respirator as required
Outdoors in all weather conditions
