Incumbent performs work in the preparation for and painting of a variety of surfaces, following standard trade practices. This position is considered an essential personnel position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Prepares surfaces for painting; removes old paint and cleans surfaces for new finishes by scraping, sanding, or stripping; applies surfacing when required, and mixes and matches paints and stains.

Protects adjacent surfaces such as casings, doors, floors, furniture, shrubbery, and sidewalks by using drop clothes and masking tape.

Remove putty or glazing compound, when necessary. Caulks window frames, doorframes, and other necessary louvers as required for painting or finishing.

Replaces broken lights and sashes, as required.

Rigs and erects scaffolding, hauls and erects ladders, cleans brushes and spray guns and other painting equipment, and makes minor repairs to equipment.

Performs all work in an orderly manner without interfering with University activities and cleans work area upon completion.

Performs work in a responsible manner to insure the use of only a minimum amount of materials while maintaining high quality in workmanship.

Practices safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Applicant must possess these skills, knowledge, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

Knowledge of the materials, tools, methods and techniques of the painting trade.

Knowledge of the hazards and safety practices of the painting trade.

Ability to apply paints, stains, varnishes, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray guns to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

Ability to use and maintain paint brushes, rollers, spray guns and other painting tools and equipment.

Ability to mix paints and match and blend colors and finishes with surrounding surfaces.

Ability to apply standard work practices for painting interiors and exteriors of buildings, equipment, and all types of surfaces.

Ability to understand and apply oral and written instructions.

Ability to work at heights above 10 feet from scaffolding and ladders.

Ability to lift and move objects weighing 75 pounds or less.

Ability to make routine decisions in the absence of on-site supervision.

Minimum Experience and Training: Four years of experience in the painting trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

Applicants will be rated on the following criteria: 1) Four years of experience in the painting trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship.

2) Posses the ability to patch and prepare surfaces for finish, including the spackling and preparation of drywall. 3) Possess the ability to replace broken glass and window sash.

4) Possess the ability to rig and erect scaffolding and ladders and work at heights of ten feet or more from ladders and scaffolding.

5) Familiar with or have experience in mixing paints from codes.

6) Possess the ability to apply painting industry work standards and practices using all types of paint and finishes.

7) Possess the ability to paint using standard brush, roller and spraying methods.

Finalist must communicate well and successfully complete an interview.

Completing this search is contingent on available funding.
