Sonoma State University, located 48 miles north of San Francisco, is one of the 23 campuses of the California State University. Sonoma State University is a liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 8,000 students and 530 full-time and part-time faculty. Review of applications will be ongoing. This pool will be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis.
Under general supervision, the Pantry Line Worker will assist in the preparation and/or serving of foods and beverages. Individuals working in this classification will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining culinary equipment and work areas within established standards.
Duties in this classification may vary depending on the needs of the unit. The Duties typically performed by the Pantry Line Worker include routine work such as; washing, rinsing and storing dishes and utensils; washing and storing pots, and pans. The preparation of food is vital to this position such as: sandwich production, salad production, entrée production, the slicing of meats and cheeses. Cleaning kitchen areas, including sweeping and mopping, relieving staff, by performing routine operations, such as preparing food; pantry, running of food items to events and service lines, stocking and assisting in food related work in the kitchen. The Pantry Line Worker will also arrange and restock condiment areas and food products in the Pantry and Sandwich stations; and provide work direction to student employees. Individuals assigned in this classification may also perform such duties as related to special events. These duties include setting up and breaking down buffet and dinner tables and performing duties as waitstaff. This position also will include cashiering and balancing drawers at the end of the shift.
Demonstrated ability to successfully perform the above duties and responsibilities. A food service background is preferred.
The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of the methods for cleaning and preparing foods for cooking and storing; proper methods of arranging dining room furniture, and serving meals; knowledge of various types of food service utensils and equipment and their uses; methods of cleaning and maintaining food service areas, utensils, and equipment; and sanitation and safety measures in food service areas. The ability to portion servings; follow directions and keep records; lift objects averaging 50 pounds if required; and read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position are required. The ability to operate in a professional, fast-paced environment, and work as a member of a team while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all members of the campus community is essential.
Requires the ability to work a varied schedule including early morning, swing, nights, weekend and holiday shifts; and a valid CA Drivers license.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $12.11 to $18.16 an hour. The hourly rate for this position will be $12.11 an hour. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked.
Fingerprint clearance is required for this position.
Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time temporary hourly, intermittent, non-exempt position. This position does not provide for credit toward permanent status nor eligibility for benefits. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.
