Job Summary:
Performs a wide variety of duties relating to assisting in the preparation and review of contracts and related documents in support of legal requirements and Florida Hospital and Adventist Healthcare System policies. Performs delegated duties under the general supervision of an attorney. Actively participates in outstanding customer service & accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Skills, Education & Experience Required:
Uses discretion when discussing research/personnel/patient related issues that are confidential in nature. Is responsive to ever-changing matrix of hospital needs and acts accordingly. Self-motivator, quick thinker.

Typing skills equal to 35 words per minute or more depending upon specific job requirements. Proficiency in performance of basic math functions, capability of communicating professionally with an acceptable use of English and spelling. Possesses strong writing skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies or related field or related experience.

Minimum three (3) years experience as a corporate paralegal. Knowledge of Florida laws/statutes (Preferred)

License, Certification or Registration Required:
Paralegal licensure or certificate (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

Communicates with responsible attorneys and/or other internal or external stakeholders regarding status of legal negotiations and/or legal documents.

Primary contact for negotiating research contracts and related documents with outside corporate sponsors (e.g., pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, etc). Reviews and negotiates contracts and associated documents pertaining to research and other hospital business.

Reviews federal and state regulations/statutes to monitor changes and assist with compliance to those changes.

Develops and maintains strategic relationships with Florida Hospital Office of Research Administration, Florida Hospital Research Departments/Institutes, and other internal stakeholders.

Adheres to Federal, State and local regulations (including HIPAA) as they pertain to assigned tasks.

Is aware of departmental changes, standards, and goals as disseminated in department meetings, demonstrated by successfully completing CBL assignment within designated timeframe and all other methods of communication.

Maintains or exceeds legal standards and departmental requirements as they pertain to assigned tasks.

Performs a wide range of assigned duties in support of total Department efficiency.

Facilitates smooth and efficient operation of department by being available and prepared to work during scheduled working hours and attending meetings as requested by supervisor.
