Essential Responsibilities
  • Filing copyright registrations to secure copyright protection for software being developed at the Global Software Center of Excellence.
  • Helping to manage and monitor patent filings.
  • Reviewing selected software licenses (with attorney oversight) prior to use of open source software in a corporate environment, including review for suitability of such open-source-licensed for development of products and inclusion in products.
  • Preparing (with attorney oversight) and managing receipt of appropriate nondisclosure agreements with potential vendors and partners.
  • Establishing appropriate protection for software development and other proprietary information via non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements.
  • Assisting in negotiating such agreements with attorney oversight.
  • Reviewing data movement reports to identify possible leakage of proprietary information.
  • Completion of copyright filings with attorney oversight.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science , Political Science or Sociology, or Liberal Studies or Psychology OR a minimum of 9 years’ experience working in legal in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 5 experience as a Paralegal.
  • A minimum of 5 experience as a paralegal in the IP group of a law firm or corporate environment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be willing to travel.

Desired Characteristics
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office preferred.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with software licensing, especially the use of open source licenses.
  • Knowledge of the software development cycle.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property protections is desired.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage responsibilities with clients who are remotely located.
