This position reports to the Director of Maintenance. The Maintenance Mechanic B
performs inspections and repairs to transit vehicles without supervision to assure the highest quality transit delivery service to customers.
The principal function of the Maintenance Mechanic B will be to
diagnose and repair various coach systems specifically concentrating on major complicated/complex problems. In addition, the Mechanic B performs upgrades and/or modifications on coach systems and equipment and performs preventative maintenance as needed.
These matters include but are not limited to:
Ensures buses operate in a safe, comfortable, like-new condition by performing high quality maintenance repairs and inspections.
Performs preventative maintenance inspections to motor coaches and light duty vehicles.
Diagnoses and executes repairs on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, pneumatic and hydraulic systems including engine and transmissions.
Renders road calls, on-the-road repairs and road tests as needed.
Keeps assigned work area clean and orderly.
Interacts well with a variety of people.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment including dusting, vacuuming, and light cleaning as necessary.
The Mechanic B shall have two (2) to five (5) years of recent bus or heavy duty truck repair experience. A High School diploma or GED is required. A valid
Washington state driver's license is required and a clean driving record;
have some knowledge of HVAC systems, starting and charging systems, electrical and electronic systems and component overhaul procedures. Have the ability to operate common shop equipment.
Must be able to read and comprehend service literature and parts manuals and to accurately record labour time and parts/services utilized on work order reports.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
Proven ability to work independently with little or no supervision required.
Excellent communications skills are required. Must be physically agile and able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must be able to work outside in extreme weather conditions, and work around fumes/odours and chemicals. Have the ability to manage with a “Safety First” attitude. Pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check required. Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical.
