DCR is currently seeking candidates for Park Ranger law enforcement positions within the Division of State Parks. Responsible for performing maintenance of the park facilities and grounds; grounds keeping, small engine repair, equipment inventory, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and trail construction. In addition, incumbent will be responsible for preparing reports, budget proposals and tracking payroll information, and cabin/campground administration. Also, be responsible for enforcing state laws, park rules, and regulations; and ensuring the safety of park visitors and staff. Purchasing supplies/materials and maintaining customer satisfaction through positive public and professional contacts. Plus, the incumbent is responsible for cash/revenue collection, and computer inventory and tracking.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of building trades, working knowledge of OSHA regulations and the ability to train staff on the proper use of tools/equipment and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to perform mechanical maintenance, small engine and vehicle repair, operate tractors, mowers, etc. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of construction, plumbing, carpentry and electrical wiring for building maintenance. Knowledge/experience in customer service and working with the public is essential.

Individual is required to have or have the ability to obtain a valid Virginia driver's license and certifications in CPR and First Aid and other certifications, as necessary. Must be a high school graduate or have a GED degree. Must not have been convicted of or plead guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Virginia; and have not tested positive on a pre-employment drug screening test. Federal law prohibits anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from carrying a firearm.

Preferred Qualifications
Working experience or knowledge in a park or other recreational setting; experience in preparing and presenting interpretive and environmental education programs; working knowledge or experience in the management of natural resources; experience in supervising, training and maintaining effective working relationships with the public, employees and volunteers.

Special Requirements
Sworn Conservation Officer Requirements: Must be a US Citizen; be at least 21 years old; must pass a background investigation including fingerprint-based criminal history records inquires. Required to accept law enforcement training and authority. Candidates selected for a preliminary interview will also be required to satisfactorily complete physical agility and mental health assessments. DCR will fill current and future positions for Chief Ranger from the "pool" applications received as positions are approved to fill. Position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays
