Overview
Responsible for providing exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and assisting potential adopters at the Lexington Humane Society’s satellite location at Petsmart. Functions as an expert on animals available for adoption. Responsible for providing basic care to animals, including cleaning kennels, feeding, watering, exercising the animals. Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Key Accountabilities:Animal Care:
Prioritizes compassionate and humane treatment of animals
Cleans and sanitizes cages
Feeds and waters animals
Provides timely, routine aftercare for animals up for adoption
Reports animals with possible medical needs to Manager of Adoptions promptly
Maintains a working knowledge of individual animal health and temperament
Updates notes in Shelter Buddy in a timely and detailed manner
Completes all activities consistent with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Key Accountabilities:

Adoptions:
Maintains a detailed knowledge of animals available for adoption
Circulates throughout facility and offers assistance to potential adopters
Assists customers in selecting appropriate pets following all SOP
Ensures adoption questionnaires are completed and reviewed in detail
Completes general evaluation of animals prior to completing adoptions
Ensures quality five-day follow-up calls are completed
Completes adoption paperwork and financial transactions carefully and thoroughly
Reviews post-operative care instructions with customers as needed
Denies adoptions in a respectful and diplomatic manner when necessary
Offers products for new pets to every customer completing an adoption
Cleans and maintains adoptions area

Provides correct information in response to customer inquiries
Fields incoming phone calls in a patient and respectful manner
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge:
Word, Excel, and other applicable software
LHS and relevant LFACC Standard Operating Procedures
Animal breeds, basic behavior, temperament, and care
Skills:

Handles all types of animals, large and small
Lifts animals, sometimes weighing in excess of 80 lbs
Handles the physical demands of providing care and treatment of up to 22 dogs and 16 cats.
Handles constant mental pressure of life and death decision-making by other staff members
Maintains flexibility and assists with what is needed for the betterment of the organization
