DEFINITION : The part-time Volunteer Coordinator at the St. Clair Street Senior Center is responsible for planning, developing and implementing volunteerism with Senior Center services and programs, recruiting volunteers, promoting gift giving, and formulating public relations and informational programs in support of St. Clair Street Senior Center. Work is performed under the administrative supervision of the Senior Center Director or designee who reviews work plans and materials for conformance to policy. All employees are responsible to the City Manager. Directions given range from general to specific. This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act. As Non-Safety Sensitive, the employee is subject to reasonable suspicion, post-accident (incident), return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB :
Develops and implements volunteer programs in support of Senior Center services.

Recruits volunteers for support work and recommends assignments that will make the best use of individual talents.

Responsible for an on-going training program for volunteers including, but not limited to, conducting orientation and training programs for volunteers and Senior Center staff who use volunteers.

Serves on committees related to volunteerism and promotes public awareness of need for volunteers.

Creates and maintains a volunteer database.

Maintains volunteer time records and applications.

Plans, organizes, and implements volunteer recognition events and activities with the program director.

Facilitates monthly/quarterly meetings with volunteers.
Responds to volunteer inquiries and keeps up-to-date records of volunteers and potential volunteers.

Responsible for recruiting new volunteers through fliers, e-mails, monthly newsletter, Senior Center notices, and community communications.

Responsible for performing background checks on all volunteers.

Gives tours and conducts volunteer interviews and makes recommendations.
Responsible for keeping volunteer manual up to date.

Handles any other related duties as assigned by the Director.
Interacts and communicates with the public and other employees in a courteous and professional manner in person and on the telephone.

Operates a computer and job-related software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook Express.

Complies with Senior Center rules and policies.

Accurately communicates information to assigned supervisors in a timely and useful manner.

Promotes and stimulates a good working relationship with staff, the public, other community agencies, clients and their caregivers.

Attends staff meetings, professional meetings, training meetings, and other functions when required.

Work is performed typically standing and sitting; however, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting equipment and objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds is required on an intermittent basis.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED :
Safely operates a motor vehicle for the purpose of conducting official duties for the City of Murfreesboro.

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s Degree preferred.

Must not have been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, entered a plea of nolo contendere to, or received judicial diversion for any:
sexual offense, or have been placed on a sex offender registry, regardless of the amount of time since the offense (Examples of sexual offenses include, but are not limited to, child molestation, rape, sexual assault, sexual battery, prostitution, solicitation, indecent exposure.);
violent felony, regardless of the amount of time since the offense (Examples of violent felony offenses include, but are not limited to, murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated burglary.);
violent misdemeanor offense or city ordinance violation relating to force or violence within the last five (5) years.
any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to theft, dishonesty, gambling, or embezzlement within the last ten (10) years;
felony offense relating to possession, manufacture, or sale of controlled substances, controlled substance analogues or drug paraphernalia within the last ten (10) years;
misdemeanor offense involving use, or possession of controlled substances, controlled substance analogues or drug paraphernalia or felony use of a controlled substance or controlled substance analogues within the past three (3) years; or,
misdemeanor offense involving DUI/DWI or alcohol within the past three (3) years.

Literacy in English with the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction and follow posted schedules.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook Express.

Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with the public and other employees and volunteers.

Ability to learn and follow City and department policies and regulations.

Knowledge of general office equipment.

Excellent telephone skills on a multi-line telephone system.

Have a good reputation for and the ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.

Ability to appear on time for work and notify the appropriate individual in advance if unable to work.

Ability to perform the duties of the job for the assigned work schedule.

Ability to maintain accurate time sheets and submit them to a designated supervisor in a timely manner.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION :
The part-time Volunteer Coordinator operates a multi-line telephone system, copy machine, facsimile machine, computer and job-related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook Express), and other modern office equipment and assistive devices as needed.

The employee works indoors at the St. Clair Street Senior Center.

All City facilities and vehicles are tobacco free.
