Responsibilities/Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Position Specific Duties
  • Assists in preparing and implementing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment and curriculum.

  • Uses developmentally appropriate guidance techniques for facilitating self control in children.

  • Uses positive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate communication with children.

  • Prepares and serves food for meal service.

  • Prepares and maintains classroom materials and a clean environment.

  • Translates documents such as flyers, correspondence and forms.

  • Serves as an interpreter as needed for program activities.

  • Provides basic daily janitorial services including emptying garbage cans, and sweeping and mopping the floor.

  • Facilitates a safe and calm environment in the classroom.

  • Assists with the implementation of parent involvement plans.


  • Additional Job Duties
  • Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures.

  • Attends training sessions and participates in training opportunities.

  • Promotes and encourages parent involvement.

  • Works as a team with community agencies and other staff in providing services to children and families.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

  • Interacts with children, families and community members in a supportive and professional manner.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • One year of experience working with young children
    • Ability to carry out oral and written directions, read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed for the position described
    • Bilingual skills with fluency in English and Spanish
    Years of experience requirements mean years of full-time work. At the College’s discretion, one year of part-time work may equate to one-half year of full-time work, depending upon number of hours worked.

    • Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment.
    • Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date:

    • Oregon Food handler’s card, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date
    • Infant/child first aid/ CPR , must be obtained within 60 days of hire date

    • Knowledge of or ability to establish working relationships with staff

    Works assigned schedule, and exhibits regular and predictable attendance. Work is sometimes performed in an emotional and stressful environment.
