The Patient Access Representative facilitates the flow of patients as well as patient information by providing clerical and clinical health care support to patients, families, providers and other professions within the continuum of care. This is achieved through effective communication, precise information entry, and appropriate follow up to patient situations and scenarios based on their department specific knowledge and critical thinking skills.
This position may also function as an Medical Assistant within the Opthalmology clinic. The Medical Assistant performs patient screening care under the direction of the Medical Director/On-site provider including, but not limited to, EKG’s. PFT’s, vision testing, venipuncture, audiograms, urine and breath collections, nebulizer treatments and pulse oximetry. Independently and accurately enters data into electronic medical record (EMR) and extracts summarized data and other reports. Trains others on use of EMR. Performs numerous clerical and tracking duties, including ordering and maintaining medical supplies, and medications for in-office medication dispensing system. Takes patient histories. Participates in process improvements.
Hiring Range Description:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Associates Degree preferred.
Three years experience in a medical office required. Prior clerical work experience in a medical office, knowledge of medical terminology, typing skills required.
Special Skills / Other:
Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks. Must be able to understand written and oral instructions pertaining to scheduling and physician requests and demonstrate critical decision making to manage these requests. Ability to deal with people at all times in a pleasant and tactful manner. Must have excellent computer skills.
