General Summary This position is responsible for abstracting and entering appropriate charges from Emergency Department (ED) records. These charges include service levels, procedures and supplies. All charges are pulled directly from nursing documentation. The ED Charge Specialist will work closely with the ED clinical staff to ensure appropriate documentation is occurring to completely support charges.
The ED Charge Specialist will also work closely with Patient Accounts staff to resolve any charging/billing issues. Timeliness of charge entry and quality will be closely monitored to ensure hospital standards are met. Minimum Qualifications 1. High school graduate.
Associates degree preferred. 2. One year coding, pre-registration, admitting, or customer service experience. 3.
Accounts receivable, billing, managed care, and computerized scheduling experience preferred. 4. Excellent customer service and communication skills. 5.
Ability to work and problem solve with minimal supervision. 6. Ability to understand and retain complex and quickly changing information. 7.
Knowledge of the impact of managed care trends on hospital operations. 8. Familiar with medical terminology. 9.
Able to function as a team member responsible for staffing operational hours. 10. Ability to adapt to change positively in work flow and process. 11.
Keyboarding/typing/data entry skills. 12. Successfully pass registration and data entry test.
