DEPARTMENT: Food and Nutrition Services
POSITION TITLE: Patient Services Technician
REPORTS TO: Director of Food & Nutrition Services
(or FNS/ENV Lead)

l. BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Director and in cooperation with a Registered Nurse, Patient Services Tech is responsible for providing patient care and services for his/her specified department/shift. The Tech must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Care will be provided in accordance with physician orders, the Joint Commission standards, OSHA regulations, nursing and departmental guidelines for care.

II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

A. Working as a team member, communicating patient services needs.
B. Delivers and picks up food cart from Dietary Kitchen at meal times.
C. Picks up and delivers patient food trays at each mealtime.
D. Picks up daily menus, assists patients in filling out menus if needed.
E. Assists patients with the preparation of the meal tray for feeding.
F. Assists in feeding patients that are unable to manage their own personal food tray.
G. Assists Nursing personnel is preparing patients for meals if patient is unable to perform.
H. Calculates and documents accurate Intake and Output via Meditech Computer System.
I. Maintains correct calorie counts when ordered.
J. Maintains and fills patient water pitchers throughout the shift.
K. Assists patients with requests as well as alerting appropriate staff to personal needs.
L. Makes rounds with patients.
M. Sets up/stocks rooms for the admission process.
N. Performs end of shift duties such as trash pick up.
O. Responsible for ordering and restocking patient refrigerator daily.
P. Monitors food expiration dates within the patient food refrigerator.
Q. Utilizes patient communication board within patient rooms.
R. Retrieves patient food requests from kitchen during meal times.
S. Maintains cleanliness of bedside tables during mealtimes.
T. Retrieves meal trays for late admissions.
U. Performs other duties assigned.

C. Meets attendance requirements of absenteeism and lateness.
D. Attends mandatory in-services.
E. Adheres to hospital policies supporting patient rights.
F. Participates in development and attainment of department and/or WCCH Goals.
G. Reports any suspected violations of Corporate Compliance to an immediate supervisor, Corporate Compliance Officer, or the Comply Line.
H. Adheres to WCCH policies and procedures regarding privacy and security of health information (HIPAA).

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education
(R) 1. High school diploma or Equivalent

B. Licenses/Certifications
(R) 2. Basic Life Support (BLS)

Must be able to communicate well with others. Able to walk and stand for long periods of time. There is potential for exposure to hazardous materials including cleaning agents as defined in the MSDS Manual. Performance of this job can consist of individual assignments as well as working with team members. Ability to read, write and comprehend, follow written and oral directions. Be emotionally stable, mature, organized and accurate. Be diplomatic and flexible in dealing with others. Excellent customer service skills.

V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands of the CNA position include walking (80% of work time), standing (17% of work time), and sitting (3% of work time). The majority of time spent is in patient care areas. Duties vary: lifts and positions patients, pushes, pulls, and lifts equipment and supplies, and uses fine and gross motor skills. May be required to lift 75-100 pounds, carry 50-75 pounds, and push 200-250 pounds with assistance as needed. Pulling 250 pounds or greater requires assistance. Performance of this job can consist of individual assignments as well as working with team members.
