Location: Arapahoe County Detention Center, 7375 South Potomac Street, Centennial, CO 80112. Starting Salary: Starting at $16.34 per hour, plus benefits. Hours: 20-hour, part-time, non-exempt position. Ability to work during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, required. Role: Provides information services to the inmates and staff of the Arapahoe County Detention facility. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 60% ASSIST INMATES WITH LIBRARY COLLECTION AND SERVICES Responds to inmate requests by providing basic legal research and instruction on how to search databases for legal information; provides Reader's Advisory and fills requests from inmates and staff; loads book carts and verifies inmate locations in order to provide service on location throughout the facility. 20% COLLECTION SUPPORT Makes recommendations as to the condition and suitability of materials, researching and recommending materials to satisfy inmate wants and needs, assists the supervisor in maintaining an attractive, current and useful collection; processes new books by entering basic information into the database, printing labels and affixing labels to materials in order to catalog the collection. 15% ASSIST INMATES WITH TECHNOLOGY Instructs inmates in the operation of computers and printers by demonstrating and assisting in their use in order to promote patron use of library technology. 5% CIRCULATION PROBLEM RESOLUTION Resolves circulation problems by tracking circulation records and requesting detention center staff for assistance in order to assist patrons in returning materials to the library. ASSIST INMATES WITH LIBRARY COLLECTION AND SERVICES Effective patron assistance with library services and collection. 3. COLLECTION SUPPORT Effective assistance in maintenance and development of collection. 4. ASSIST PATRONS WITH TECHNOLOGY Effective inmate assistance in the use of law library resources. 5. PROBLEM RESOLUTION Effective troubleshooting and efficient resolution of problems. Qualifications: Two years to five years of similar or related experience, preferred. Bachelor's degree, preferred. Ability to work in a high security environment, required. Ability to successfully pass criminal history and background check, required. Ability to work with varying demographics, including individuals who are charged and/or convicted with violent crimes, required. Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required. Advanced technology skills, including advanced assessment scores for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook, preferred. Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.
