Requirements:
Successful candidates will be working towards or have a Bachelors degree in any field of study.

Candidates must have personal experience managing a chronic medical condition which requires daily medication administration.

Counseling or mentoring experience helpful, such as camp counselor or resident advisor.

Expected weekly commitment is 5-10 hours. Must be willing to work flexible hours.

Position will require CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) research training upon hire.

Ideal candidate will be dedicated to this position for at least two years.

Job Description:
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.

Within the Division of Nephrology, we are seeking a young adult to serve as peer mentors to adolescents with solid organ transplants as part of a research study. Peer Mentors will serve as role models to promote positive health behavior and provide support, particularly with regard to medication adherence.

The Peer Mentors will communicate directly with patients, conducting several in-person meetings and weekly telephone or e-contact to encourage and support positive health behavior, particularly with helping patients take medications daily. Mentors will keep logs of patient interactions.

Mentors will receive training in relationship building, role modeling, problem solving, conflict resolution, goal setting, and effective listening among other pertinent topics.

Mentors may be assigned anywhere from 1-10 mentees at any given time and must be able to effectively manage their workload.
