This position is located in Serra Mesa.
8-hour variable shift; 9:00 am – 5:30 pm and 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, weekends
Current unencumbered California Registered Nurse licensure required
Completion of an approved lactation course of study that prepares applicant to take the IBCLC exam required
Current BCLS and NRP certifications required
IBCLC within one to two (1-2) years lactation hire date or maintenance of IBCLC required
Three (3) or more years of counseling breastfeeding mothers with recent experience in the hospital post-partum unit or in the NICU setting required
Effective interpersonal skills as well as oral, written, and presentation skills required
Advanced computer and charting skills required
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
This position is for the Lactation Consultant for Sharp Mary Birch Hospital. The lactation consultation services to patient and family that progresses them towards self-identified and individualized breastfeeding goals. Utilizes the nursing process in the approach to care of patients to promote quality breastfeeding/lactation outcomes.
SMBHWN is one of the few free-standing women's hospitals in the country delivering over 8000 infants per year. Lactation services are provided primarily on an inpatient basis to a very busy 72 bed mother -baby unit (MIS) and a fast-paced 61 bed NICU soon to be 81 bed unit. This position will practice primarily on the MIS unit and float occasionally to the NICU. In addition to a high functioning lactation team, SMBHWN has a New Beginnings Boutique, staffed by Certified Lactation Educators, to provide retail accessories, basic education and several support groups to promote a successful breastfeeding experience for expectant and new parents.
