Required Skills and Qualifications
Associate Nursing Degree
Current CPR and NRP certifications
Minimum 3 years clinical experience, with at least 1 year of experience in high risk labor and delivery
AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Course completed within last 2 years

This Clinical Nurse position is for the Perinatal Special Care Unit (PSCU) caring for the high risk ante-partum and post-partum patients. Unit is budgeted for a census of 26 patients. Current ratio is 3:1 to 4:1.
A highly-skilled team including nurses and perinatologists, care for the high-risk antepartum patient on this specially designed 36-bed unit. Patients with preterm labor, complicated with diabetes and/or hypertension, comprise the majority of the patient population. Education and therapeutic activities are available to all patients including but not limited to Arts for Healing, Pet Therapy, High Tea Time, and A-Z Education.
In addition, patients are admitted for observation due to a motor vehicle accident, polynephritis, uncontrolled post-partum hypertension and/or diabetes or fertility treatment complications. As the length of stay ranges from a few days to several months, these nurses are challenged to meet the entire spectrum of needs for the PSCU patient and her family.
The Perinatal Special Care Unit (PSCU) at Sharp Mary Birch is designated for San Diego women who have premature labor, or whose pregnancies have been complicated by conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. There are education and therapeutic activities for patient such as Arts for Healing, Pet Therapy, High Tea Time, and A-Z Education. This unit is a first of its kind in San Diego and women who are admitted to this unit receives focused care no matter the duration of their stay.
