GENERAL SUMMARY :
EKGH/PEKG/2EKG/ET02/3EKG :
Independently performs quality EKGs, SAECGs, 24-hour ambulatory/ Holter monitor hook ups. Able to identify dysrhythmias to provide physicians with quality and accurate diagnostic information on neonatal through gerontologic patients. Demonstrates judgement, ingenuity and initiative. Knowledgeable in and carries out all applicable processes of the dept. Teaches and directs the work of other staff and students as required. Participates in the Florida Hospital performance improvement program as requested. Assists as needed with various office responsibilities to include, physician's billing, delivering EKGs to the floor, verifying patient MRI #s prior to editing and responding to phone inquiries/fax requests from departments and physician offices. Communicates effectively with staff, physicians and hospital leadership. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

2EKG/ET02/3EKG (additional):
Capable of editing and confirming EKGs in database correctly and efficiently. According to campus need and staff training- able to assist with scheduling, preparation and performance of the exercise and pharmacological cardiac stress testing.

3EKG (additional):
Manages EKG database. Knowledgeable and carries out all processes of exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing under direct supervision of RN, department supervisor, or physician. Takes charge of other staff and students as directed by department supervisor/ manager. Demonstrates scheduling flexibility and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate.
A four-week notice is required for resignations/transfer, as well as any change in employment status resulting in decreasing hours worked.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
EKGH/PEKG/2EKG/ET02/3EKG:
  • Must be able to function independently with little or no supervision.
  • Must remain calm during stressful or emergent situations
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, and must be able to communicate effectively.
  • BLS upon hire or within 90 days. CPR skills check biannually.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in obtaining/ evaluating a technically acceptable EKG tracing (EKG I, within 90 days of hire)
2EKG/ET02/3EKG: If performing stress testing, must pass monitor tech competency Computer based learning within 90 days Recognize and alert the appropriate personnel to lethal arrhythmias and unstable hemodynamics

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
3EKG: All hires after June 2008 : Must be a graduate from a CVT Non-Invasive Program

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: High school diploma or equivalence

EKGH/PEKG/2EKG/ET02/3EKG: Previous EKG experience

2EKG/ET02/3EKG: Previous Stress testing experience or formal education for stress testing

3EKG: Advanced EKG Courses Previous Supervisory Experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED :
3EKG: All hires after June 2008 : CCT Required within 1 year of hire

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
EKGH/PEKG/2EKG/ET02/3EKG: Electrocardiography certification

2EKG/ET02 (additional) Current EKG Competency Certificate

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Follows through with all details to ensure a smooth and timely flow of procedures. Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to all patient orders. Communicates appropriately and professionally with floors, physicians, visitors and patients. Abnormal findings communicated to the RN and or physician timely. Manages time and equipment effectively and works as a team member to provide the best patient care. Carries out assignments efficiently and effectively. Receives instructions and guidance from the supervisors or managers and is compliant with special requests as situations dictate. Assists as needed with various office responsibilities to include, physician's billing, delivering EKGs to the floor, verifies patient MRI #s prior to editing and responding to phone inquiries/fax requests from departments and physician offices. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
