Position Summary:
The MRI Technologist performs the full range of basic and advanced level procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The technologist acts as resources to others as needed, and is required to be on-call basis and work varied shifts as assigned.

% Effort

MRI Tech - Performs accurate basic and advanced contrast studies/procedures, ensuring optimal imaging and patient safety. Sets parameters in accordance with established protocols or physician orders and verifies treatment levels or procedures against established guidelines. Accurately collects and records data regarding patient status completing all documentation in a timely manner. Monitors patients, diagnostic procedures, and diagnostic equipment making appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results. Effectively assists as directed with anesthesia and conscious sedation procedures. Accurately interprets data regarding patient status in consideration of patient age and determines patient needs based on age-specific criteria. Positions patients as necessary to ensure accurate testing in consideration of patient age.


Provides appropriate and effective instruction/training to others as needed.


Provides proper protective equipment to patients, and uses appropriate body mechanics when lifting, positioning and transporting patients and/or equipment. Adheres to UCIMC radiation safety practice of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable.) Maintains appropriate aseptic and sterile procedures and prepares equipment and supplies for procedures in an organized and timely manner. Effectively operates specialized equipment and accurately performs quality control on equipment ensuring all appropriate records are kept as required.


Reviews test results with physicians or other care providers in a timely manner. Accurately performs computer data entry to record test results and patient information. Accurately records procedures to ensure correct billing

Required Qualifications:
Must possess advanced specialty certification - MRI

Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as assigned

Cert Radiologic Technologist

Work off-site as needed

Fluoroscopy license/ Certification

Basic Life Support

Must be able to participate in On Call Rotation and work occasional weekends & evenings

Venipuncture Certificate

American Registry of Rad Techs
