Education and Training: Minimum educational requirement is a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with an associate's degree in nursing. Previous education and performance improvement experience desired. Must hold, at a minimum, an unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (R.N.) in the State of North Carolina and have 3-5 years recent clinical experience on a general medical & surgical floor. Preferred education includes a graduate from an accredited bachelorette nursing program with the degree of BSN. Prefer candidates that hold at least one national certification. Prefer candidates that have working experience in education and performance improvement.
Essential Functions: Works under the supervision of the Director, the PIEC serves an important and integral role in the successful implementation of a nursing education and performance improvement (PI) program that supports the educational and quality initiatives of the organization. Responsible to function in the role of educator as well as PI Coordinator. He or she will coordinate educational and PI activities that are inter-related. Responsibilities include teaching predefined curriculum, associating a relationship between PI and education and assisting with the development of educational offerings that support the PI program and improve quality for the patient within the organization. Will have the ability to effectively communicate in both the written and verbal form. The coordinator will serve to coordinate all PI functions within the Medical Center and will assist department directors with PI study projects, assist in collecting data and assist with the reporting of that data monthly, quarterly or as required by the Director. Collaborates with department directors in and outside of the nursing division, physicians, mid-level practitioners, and administrative team members.
Establishes and oversees the PI program for the department of nursing. Teaches classes and courses as defined by the director. Defines dates and publishes a monthly calendar that reflects dates of PI meetings. This calendar will be published once a year and updated as needed. Identifies current quality issues in cooperation with department directors and provides guidance on developing a program of study to identify and correct quality issues. Assist department directors with the definition of reasonable and appropriate study timeframes. Assist department directors with reporting of PI initiatives and results. Reports monthly to the director those findings that are associated with departmental PI study projects. All PI activities will follow the PDCA Model.
Establishes a reporting and referral system that supports PI initiatives through nursing education. Once a PI issue has been identified, either by the coordinator, department director, staff member or PI team member, the coordinator works to ensure that corrective education is readily available through class room instruction, Net Learning CBL or a combination of both. Establishes a Nursing PI Team that meets on a monthly basis to review PI team initiatives. The minutes of these meetings will be taken to record internal PI performance actions forwarded to the Director within a reasonable period of time, not to exceed one week from meeting date. Attends meetings as may be called by the director. Perform other duties as assigned by the department director.
