Coordinates and performs a variety of clerical permit processing functions on behalf of the City's Building Inspection Division; provides customer service to the public; processes and issues permits and licenses; coordinates inspections; and performs other related duties.

Examples of Duties:

Provides customer service and assistance to contractors and the general public. Responds to routine inquiries and complaints regarding the permitting process, building codes, zoning requirements, and/or other building related matters. Receives and processes building permit applications and/or plan submittals; monitors documentation for accuracy and completeness. Performs data entry; creates, updates, and maintains applicant files. Tracks and notifies customers regarding the status of permit applications and/or plan reviews. Reviews and approves building permits, contractor licenses, and/or Certificates of Occupancy. Receives, coordinates, and schedules building inspections. Prepares, copies, files, sends, faxes, and emails various types of correspondence. Provides clerical support to the Building Official and/or other departmental personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent, and one year customer service/permit processing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Appointment/Commission as a Notary Public is required. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Must have a Word and Excel test on file prior to application. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Ability to speak and understand Spanish.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
