Performs multi-skilled work in identifying damage caused by insects, household pests, termites, and selecting proper method for control of the damage.

Performs exterminating activities that includes the application or use of pesticides, repellents, and devices for the control of urban pests on the university campus which includes approximately 2 million square feet of buildings. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes workplace safety.

Examples of work performed:

Pest Management – Includes the actual application or use of pesticides, repellents, and devices (traps, screens and caulk) for the control of urban pests. The pests controlled include: termites, rodents, birds, and general pests (ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, etc.). Occasionally small animals (cats, opossums, squirrels, and birds) will need to be captured and removed from buildings. Dead animals inside and around buildings are removed and discarded. Odor problems caused by dead animals are neutralized with odor control chemicals.

Equipment Maintenance – Services equipment that may include cleaning sprayers, cleaning truck, replacing gaskets and greasing sprayer pumps, replacing packing in spray pumps, calibrating spray equipment, fueling and checking the oil in truck.

Record Keeping – Maintain records of treatment and schedule treatment of buildings as needed.

Physical Requirements -

Considerable physical activity, restricted movement, lifting, carrying heavy objects, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke and/or loud noises.

Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED certificate.

Two to four years in termite and general pest control.

Certification/License:

Texas Non-Commercial Certified Pesticide Applicators License for general & termites.

Valid Drivers License.
