Job Description
The High Performance Computing Group seeks a Ph.D. intern to actively participate in the research conducted for the COMPOSE-HPC: Software Composition for Extreme Scale Computational Science & Engineering.

We are looking for an exceptional student with experience and interest in compiler technology, code transformations and the application of those technologies to HPC applications.

This is a position that can lead to high visibility and leadership in the research community.

The following requirements are essential to this position:
Active student seeking a Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or a closely related technical area.

Experience with code transformations, compilers and/or programming language implementation technologies.

Experience with scientific application (i.e. computational chemistry applications and physical phenomena simulations).

Peer-reviewed publication record in HPC or a related area is highly desirable.

Minimum Requirements
Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college.

Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

All staff at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory must be able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Conduct technical research in areas of interest to the COMPOSE-HPC project.

Publish research results in highly visible, peer-reviewed venues (conference & journals)

Interact with internal and external research staff and domain scientists for collaboration purposes

Participate and potentially lead technical presentations on the work

Participate in team meetings, and potentially interact with funding clients.

Technical Expertise:
o

Ability to conduct high quality research in areas of technical activity of term-rewriting tools, code transformations, emerging architectures, scientific applications, systems software, programming environments.

Level of Responsibility:
o

Reporting duties to the HPC group leader and their mentor/supervisor.

Minimum Education/Experience:
o

Actively seeking a Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or a closely related technical discipline is required.
