Pharmacy Assistant-Help Desk Tier 1 shall provide assistance to the Pharmacy Help Desk Manager in applying current Independent Health pharmacy policies and procedures. The Pharmacy Assistant functions as an advocate for customers and resolves all inquiries (i.e. phone, mail, fax and email.) The Pharmacy Assistant will utilize system tools and resources to address and resolve inquiries; provide benefit, facilitate proper utilization of policies and procedures, coordinate resolution to streamline processes; make demographic changes; and educate customers on regulatory policies and procedures. The position requires a complete working knowledge of specific lines of business and riders with the ability to correctly interpret plan contracts. Must also be able to articulate and portray answers to customers.
Holidays, weekends and evenings are a requirement of the position.
High School diploma or GED required, associates degree preferred.
Two (2) years experience in a high-volume pharmacy with training by a licensed pharmacist in the following areas: pharmacy claim completion, assisting pharmacist in delivery of pharmaceuticals. Comparable experience considered.
General knowledge of drug names, therapeutic categories, dosage forms,
manufacturers and packaging.
Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with internal and external customers. Excellent written/verbal communication skills, excellent customer service skills.
Proven written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with HMO concept, PC skills, and pharmacy on-line system preferred.
Demonstration of math aptitude for purposes of calculating simple drug requirements when given doses and price calculations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Understands the importance of maintaining the physical and technical security and privacy of protected health information (PHI).
Maintains confidentiality and uses only the minimum amount of protected health information (PHI) necessary to accomplish job related responsibilities.
