    • Job Summary
      • The Pharmacy Tech III will assist pharmacists in the acquisition, preparation, and distribution of medications in treating the patients under the University Hospital system of care. The duties may include but are not limited to the following responsibilities: packaging and labeling of medications, preparation of parenteral products, operation of pharmacy information systems, delivery of medications via a delivery cart to patient care areas including operation of the PYXIS automation, and general support to pharmacists in delivering pharmaceutical care to all patient populations (i.e., neonate, infant, child, adult, and geriatric). May also periodically or routinely serve as a medication technician to assist nursing in the acquisition of medications from PYXIS. The Pharmacy Technician III will be expected to participate in operational planning and may be asked to serve on special projects.

      • Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.
    • Qualifications Required
      • Education:
        • High school diploma or equivalent.
        • Graduate of ASHP accredited program or State accredited pharmacy technology school required
      • Licensure/Certification:
        • Pharmacy Technician Certification as recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and technician registration with the State of Georgia.
      • Experience:
        • Two years of hospital technician experience which should include broad experience in unit dose drug distribution and IV admixtures. Out patient pharmacy experience will be considered in relation to the responsibilities of the position.
      • Knowledge, skills, abilities:
        • Individual should possess superior leadership skills and must be able to handle a variety of responsibilities.
        • Should be able to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.
        • Must be able to perform basic computer tasks in generating reports and adjusting patient medication billing accounts.
        • Reading comprehension and visual skills must be sufficient to see and interpret drug orders, reports or other written forms of communication.
        • Must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and problem solve.
        • Individual should possess a basic knowledge of various drug products, pharmaceutical laws, and drug distribution.
        • Must possess a philosophy of health care service consistent with that of the mission of University Hospital.
    • Physical Demands
      • Ability to move throughout the hospital to accomplish duties. Visual ability to see & read records, reports, or computer terminals. Manual dexterity to enter data and retrieve data from computers or related information systems. Ability to communicate verbally. Ability to move moderately heavy objects (i.e., IV fluids, drug carts, supplies, equipment, etc.).
