The Donor Specialist position is critical in providing an outstanding experience to our blood donors and works out of our Milwaukee Donor Center- including both donor center and mobile blood drive coverage. The experience that we strive to provide all of our donors requires you to anticipate and exceed the expectations of our highly loyal and committed donors as we strive to make their donation as convenient and pleasant as possible. In this position, you will perform accurate medical interviewing, determine donor eligibility, perform venipunctures, and assure donor and recipient safety.

Requirements: Required minimum qualifications include training in phlebotomy (EMT-I, LPN, Medical Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Dialysis Technician training is acceptable), a valid Driver's License in good standing for the last 3 years, access to a vehicle, and a high school diploma. Successful candidates must have previous phlebotomy training and will be trained on blood banking phlebotomy once hired.

Training : The training for both full and part time positions takes place on first shift and runs for 40 hours/week for 6 weeks. There are 2 weeks of classroom time on medical interviewing, and then a week of hands on medical interviewing with a mentor. Then there are 2 additional weeks of classroom time that provides instruction on blood banking phlebotomy, and a week of field phlebotomy work with a mentor. The classroom training takes place at our Headquarters in downtown Milwaukee.

Scheduling: Our donor center and mobile drive hours are based on being where the donors are, and being there when they are able to donate. This requires flexibility on the part of our entire team. In the donor centers, much of the weekly scheduled availability is based on history of donor traffic, and that history is combined with the appointments that are scheduled (or requested) through our Donor Recruitment Call Center team. Mobile drives are scheduled around the availability of donors that is provided by the drive’s sponsoring organization. We work hard to ensure that we have our team onsite when the most donors are able to donate. Our scheduling model requires flexibility since staff be available as early as 4:00 am and as late as 9:00pm covering both mobile drive and donor center hours). Staff schedules are posted 3-4 weeks in advance to allow for staff to plan around the variability of the hours. Full time hours are 37.5-40 per week.

Salary: salary range starts at $13.30 per hour – actual offers based on experience
