Collects blood and other specimens from patients, runs limited point of care testing, performs data processing of specimens and verifies/updates insurance information as patients utilize laboratory services. Responsible for properly identifying patients before procedures and following laboratory standard operating procedures for collection, handling, processing, test analysis, documentation and results reporting.
High School diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program required. Minimum 1 year phlebotomist experience required; phlebotomy certification preferred. Must have the knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine blood and urine tests and knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks. Must have strong medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff and be skilled in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation. Ability to work independently and communicate clearly is a must.
