UNIVERSITY DESCRIPTION: Valley City State University (VCSU) is an institution of higher education accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools) and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. VCSU is authorized to offer BA, BS, BS in Education, BUS and M.Ed. degrees. COMMUNITY: Valley City is a community of approximately 6,500 people, located in the beautiful Sheyenne River Valley in the east central portion of the state. Fargo-Moorhead, a metropolitan area, is located 60 miles east of Valley City on Interstate 94. Minneapolis-St. Paul and Winnipeg, Manitoba are within 300 miles on Interstate 94 and Interstate 29, respectively. The location of the community lends itself to cultural and recreational activities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The qualified candidate will have a background in physical education and health education pedagogy. The position requires instruction of undergraduate physical education and health education teacher candidates in physical education and health education methods and other curricular related content. This position also requires the coordination and supervision of off campus practicum experiences and student teacher supervision. A strong commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching, contribution to department and university committees, and meaningful collaboration with area professionals will be expected. Additional expertise is desired, although not required, in adapted physical education.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Earned MS/MA/M.Ed with a major course of study in physical education, health education, or a related field. Two years of K-12 public school physical education, secondary health education instruction or related teaching experiences. Experience and/or willingness to utilize technology in course delivery. A valid driver's license is required.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Doctorate preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience in assessment, evidence of a strong commitment to student-centered learning, excellent verbal and written communication skills, membership in at least one state or national physical education or health education organization (e.g., NASPE), experience in the online environment, and expertise in adapted physical education.
SALARY, BENEFITS, AND TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Commensurate with education and experience. Group health and disability are provided. Participation in TIAA-CREF is part of the state higher education retirement program. This is a nine-month, full-time, tenured track position. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all hires. Duties begin August 2014.
