part-time; guaranteed 14 hours per week but may work up to 21 hours per week; no-benefits

This professional position is responsible for evaluation, assessment, goal development and physical therapy intervention services for children with developmental delays who are clients of School-Based Services Program. The school-based position will provide services to children ages 3-21 years who are referred to FCDC by the Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). School-based services are provided in FCPS facilities and FCDC. Supervision is received from the Occupational Therapist/Physical Therapist Program Manager.

Examples of Work:
  • Provide information to families and school staff on the findings and proposed recommendations for intervention
  • Provide appropriate services to children in accordance with their IEPs to help promote safe and functional independence within the school environment
    Provide collaborative consultation and training to school teams and families in techniques for handling children or helping them use special equipment
  • Work with clients with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, meningomyecele and other syndromes, as well as developmental delay and other health impairments
  • Assess, observe, plan and develop goals for children who receive special education services in FCPS
  • Recommend strategies, modifications and adaptive equipment that may improve access to and performance of developmental or educational goals and related activities
  • Participate in in-service training and other appropriate meetings and conferences
  • Prepare and submit periodic logs documenting time spent with, or on behalf of, clients, as well as other related documentation
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
  • Completion of pediatric physical therapy practicum
  • - OR -
  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy
  • Minimum 2 years of physical therapy work experience (completion of pediatric physical therapy practicum may substitute for 1 year of the work experience requirement)
  • - OR -
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy
  • Minimum 5 years of physical therapy work experience
  • Current PT license issued by the MD State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (or PT license from another state with ability to obtain the MD license before work begins at FCDC) – current MD license must be maintained throughout employment
  • Successful completion of National Physical Therapy Registration Examination
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws governing physical therapy, early intervention and school-based service delivery
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately compile and maintain medical/therapeutic records as well as other related documentation
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, teachers, children and their family members and the general public
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to approximately 50 pounds

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Ability to provide own transportation to schools, homes and other sites as appropriate
  • This position is considered essential personnel in the event of a public health emergency.
